Photos of the Brown Noddy (Anous stolidus) on the ground, on the tree and flying over the sea and Eastern island/Midway/Hawaii. Pictures of Brown Noddy chick can be seen
Approximately 1,000 Brown Noddy pairs (Anous stolidus) nest on the Midway Islands/Hawaii . Mostly near vegetation, the female lays its egg directly on the ground or sometimes on naupaka or iron wood branches. The chick is most aggressively protected by the parents: inevitably, they attack everyone who is considered a threat.
In addition to the Brown Noddies, there are also Black Hawaiian Noddies (Anous minutes) on the Midway Atoll They are more slender and darker, and the white spot on the head is by far bigger than the one of the Brown Noddy
Approximately 6,000 pairs of these birds have their nests on iron wood trees on Sand Island, where they breed between August and November. It is the largest breeding colony on the north-western Hawaiian Islands.
The Black Hawaiian Noddy and the Brown Noddy both have a characteristic courtship behaviour. While courting a partner, both sexes are nodding, which can be observed between May and November.
