Description: The cutter head of the cutter suction dredger Beverwijk 31 played a crucial role in the construction of Richards Bay Harbour in the province of Natal, South Africa. Nine powerful cutter suction dredgers and two hopper dredgers were used to carry out extensive dredging operations. Over 70 kilometers of pipeline and five floating intermediate pump stations were required for the transportation of dredged materials. A total of 170 million cubic meters had to be dredged to complete the harbor.
