Description: The South African fur seals, also known as Arctocephalus pusillus, are fascinating marine creatures. This image captures the seals in the roaring surf off the coast of Gansbaai. On the islands of Dyer Island and Geyser Rock, thousands of these animals live in a large colony. The seals have to navigate through a dangerous zone daily, as Great White Sharks lurk in the waters. For the sharks, the seals are of special interest, as they are an important source of food. Despite the dangers, the seals always safely return to land when they come back from their fishing expeditions in the open sea.
