Deep injury of a Bull Shark from longline remnant (00018288)
Description: The Bull Shark (Carcharhinus leucas) is a dangerous shark that is often found in shallow waters near the shore and in river estuaries. This particular specimen has been deeply injured by a longline remnant as it attempted to free itself from a fishing device. Despite its efforts, a part of the line remained stuck in its body as it continued to grow. The sturdy longline remnant has now penetrated approximately five centimeters deep into the animal. Unfortunately, there was no way to help the shark.
