The impressive biting tools of a six-meter Great White Shark with teeth up to 60 mm long (00016561)
Description: The jaw with the impressive teeth comes from a six-meter Great White Shark captured near Geyser Rock and Dyer Island at the beginning of the twentieth century. The largest teeth are 60 mm long. African penguins, cormorants, and a large colony of South African fur seals inhabit this area. The Great White Shark, as a top predator, plays a crucial role in the marine ecosystem. Recent research suggests that Great White Sharks not only inhabit coastal areas but also undertake long migrations. Little is known about their behavior and habitat. The population of the Great White Shark is rapidly declining worldwide. These magnificent creatures are at risk of being eradicated due to human activities.
Location: Western Cape, Gansbaai/Dyer Island, South Africa
