Great White Shark searching for prey (00010347)
Description: Great White Shark searching for prey A Great White Shark cruises the waters near Geyser Rock and Dyer Island off the coast of South Africa. This area is home to African penguins, cormorants, many other seabirds, and a large colony of South African fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus). The top predator Great White Shark sits at the apex of the food chain and plays a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance in the ocean. Recent research suggests that Great White Sharks not only inhabit coastal areas but also undertake long migrations. Very little is known about their behavior and habitat. The Great White Shark has existed for millions of years almost unchanged, perfectly adapted to its environment. The population of Great White Sharks has declined significantly worldwide.
