Great White Shark hunting in the waters of Gansbaai (00010363)
Description: The Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is a fascinating predator of the seas. This majestic creature roams the waters near Geyser Rock, close to Dyer Island, where a large colony of seals resides. Every winter, these sharks arrive to hunt their favorite prey, the seals. The seals are well aware of the danger and try to avoid encounters with the sharks, especially when they are in shallow waters near the island. However, on their way to fish in the open sea, they must pass through a dangerous zone where the Great White Sharks lurk. The presence of these predators is directly linked to the high concentration of seals in the area.
