The Majestic Great White Shark - Symbol of Strength and Mysteries of the Seas (00010429)

Impressive Great White Shark with Large Gill Slits and Long Pectoral Fins

Description: The Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is a fascinating marine creature that impresses with its large gill slits and long pectoral fins. Roaming the waters near Geyser Rock and Dyer Island off the coast of South Africa, this majestic predator shares its habitat with African penguins, cormorants, a variety of other seabirds, and a large colony of South African fur seals (Arctocephalus pusillus). As a top predator, the Great White Shark plays a crucial role in the marine ecosystem, helping to maintain ecological balance. Recent research suggests that these creatures not only inhabit coastal areas but also undertake extensive migrations. Despite their fame, there are still many mysteries to uncover about the behavior and habitat of Great White Sharks. Virtually unchanged for millions of years, these sharks have evolved to perfectly adapt to their environment. Due to a significant decline in their population, the Great White Shark was listed in Appendix II of the CITES agreement in October 2004, leading to strict controls on the trade of these animals and their products. The future of this fascinating species remains uncertain.
