The impressive silhouette of a Great White shark below the water surface (00014572)
Description: The majestic Great White shark, scientifically known as Carcharodon carcharias, glides through the greenish waters near Geyser Rock and Dyer Island off the coast of South Africa. Here, near Gansbaai in the Western Cape, it shares the waters with a variety of marine creatures such as African penguins, cormorants, and a large colony of South African fur seals. As a top predator, the Great White shark plays a crucial role in the ocean ecosystem, helping to maintain the natural balance. Recent research indicates that these fascinating animals not only inhabit coastal waters but also undertake long migrations. Despite their immense size and power, much remains unknown about the behavior and habitat of Great White sharks. Existing virtually unchanged for millions of years, they are perfectly adapted to their environment.
