Majestic Great White Shark near Dyer Island

Description: The impressive Great White Shark, also known as Carcharodon carcharias, crosses the waters near Geyser Rock and Dyer Island off the South African coast. African penguins, cormorants, and a large colony of South African fur seals inhabit this area. As a surface hunter, the Great White Shark often finds its prey on the water. With its size, strength, and fearsome jaws, the super predator poses a constant threat to the South African fur seals around Dyer Island and Geyser Rock. Belonging to the mako shark family, the Great White Shark has very large gill slits and long pectoral fins. The largest individuals can reach lengths of up to 6.4 meters and weigh an estimated 1500 kg.
