The Great White Shark - A feared hunter of the oceans (00016510)

Great White Shark in front of the South African Coast

Description: The Great White Shark, also known as Carcharodon carcharias, patrols near Geyser Rock and Dyer Island off the South African coast. In this area, African penguins, cormorants, and a large colony of South African fur seals reside. The surface hunter often finds its prey on the water surface. The fearsome predator is a constant threat to the seals around Dyer Island and Geyser Rock. Belonging to the mako shark family, the Great White Shark has large gill slits and long pectoral fins. With sharp teeth in the upper jaw and pointed hooks in the lower jaw, it is a feared hunter. Despite its role at the top of the food chain, little is known about its behavior and habitat. There is a risk of the Great White Shark being exterminated by humans.
