Spectacular Hurricane with High Waves at the Southern Tip of Africa (00011286)

Hurricane at the Southern Tip of Africa

Description: The Southern tip of Africa is known for sudden storms of hurricane strength with high waves. During my many visits here, I have encountered storms with wave heights of up to eight meters. Sometimes I had to wait for up to 10 days until the storm subsided and an outing was possible. The waters around Cape Agulhas are extremely rich in fish but are considered very dangerous for shipping due to the inhospitable coast with many reefs. Since the 17th century, it is said that alone in the 'Graveyard of Ships' 140 sunken ships lie.
