Impressive shots of the stormy sea at Cape Agulhas, South Africa (00011292)
Description: The stormy sea at the southernmost tip of Africa is known for sudden gale-force storms with high waves. During many visits to Cape Agulhas, I have encountered storms with wave heights of up to eight meters. Sometimes, I had to wait for up to ten days until the storm subsided and it was safe to venture out. The waters around Cape Agulhas are rich in fish, but due to the many reefs and inhospitable coastline, the area is considered very dangerous for shipping. Since the 17th century, it is believed that around 140 sunken ships lie in the 'Graveyard of Ships'.
