Majestic Storms and High Waves at Cape Agulhas (00011361)
Description: The stormy sea at the southern tip of Africa is notorious for sudden gale-force storms with high waves. During numerous visits, I have encountered storms with wave heights of up to eight meters. Sometimes it took up to 10 days for the winds to calm down and allow for sailing. The waters around Cape Agulhas are extremely rich in fish, yet perilous due to the rugged coastline with many reefs. Since the 17th century, approximately 140 ships are said to have sunk in the 'Graveyard of Ships'.
