King Cheetah resting

Description: The King Cheetah, also known as Acinonyx jubatus, is resting peacefully. This majestic predator is nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its long legs, the cheetah is the fastest land mammal on Earth. The rare King Cheetah is distinguished by larger black spots that merge into stripes. This portrait showcases a captive King Cheetah at the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve. Here, not only bred cheetahs are cared for but also animals rescued from farmers and prepared for reintroduction into the wild.
