Impressive tiger shark at the reef slope in Fiji (00018689)
Description: The tiger shark (Galeocerdo cuvier) is a fascinating and impressive predator of the oceans. Measuring over six meters in length, they are among the largest sharks in existence. Their striking striped pattern on the gray back makes them particularly noticeable at a young age, while it fades in adulthood. These feared hunters are known for their wide mouths, powerful jaw muscles, and tiger-like stripes that have given them their name. Tiger sharks are considered the most dangerous shark species in tropical waters and top the accident statistics. Their diet is diverse, ranging from sea turtles to seals, other sharks, and invertebrates. This fascinating specimen was photographed in the warm waters off Beqa Lagoon in Fiji.
