Description: The blacktip reef shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) is a species of shark that inhabits the tropical coral reefs of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Easily identifiable by its prominent black fin tips, this shark species prefers shallow coastal waters and is commonly found near coral reefs. Younger sharks tend to inhabit shallow sandy flats, while older sharks are often seen around reef ledges and near reef drop-offs. Their diet consists mainly of small fish, occasionally squid, seabirds, or other small sharks.
