Description: The port of Richards Bay in South Africa is known for its heavy seas on the North Breakwater. The swell waves on the east coast can grow enormously in height, and the breakwaters are located in an area with some of the strongest surf in the world. Even the nautical charts warn of these breakers. The rough weather causes the waves to reach the crane and sometimes even the Manitowoc crane operator's cabin. In extreme conditions, the crane must be moved to a safe area to prevent damage.
