Placing dolosse on South Breakwater in Richards Bay, South Africa (00092112)
Description: Richards Bay Harbour in Natal, South Africa, is known for its powerful swell waves that can reach immense heights. To protect the harbor from the forces of the Indian Ocean, dolosse were placed at the South Breakwater. Dolosse are a South African invention made of unreinforced concrete, serving as effective wave breakers. This project required the use of specialized cranes like the Manitowoc 4100 R to precisely place the heavy dolosse. The dolosse, arranged irregularly up to 7.0 m above the water level, help absorb wave energy and protect the structure of the breakwater.
