Fascinating Encounter with a Great White Shark off the Coast of South Africa (00015534)
Description: The Great White Shark, also known as Carcharodon carcharias, is a fascinating and feared creature of the oceans. In front of Geyser Rock near Dyer Island, there is a large colony of South African Fur Seals, a popular prey for this top predator. Every winter, the large Great White Sharks gather in this region to hunt for seals. The seals are aware of the danger and stay close to the island to remain safe. However, when they swim out into the plankton-rich water for their fishing expeditions, they enter the danger zone where the Great White Sharks lurk. The high concentration of these predators in this area is due to the large seal colony.
Location: Western Cape, Gansbaai/Dyer Island, South Africa
