Description: The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a fascinating predator that is nearly extinct in Asia and critically endangered in Africa due to poaching and habitat loss. This portrait captures a young cheetah in its natural habitat. With its distinctive long legs, the cheetah is the fastest land animal in the world. The image was taken at the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve, where bred and rescued cheetahs are cared for and reintroduced into the wild.
