Description: The African Wild Dogs, scientifically known as Lycaon pictus, are fascinating animals that inhabit the bush and tree-strewn savannas of Africa south of the Sahara. Their scientific name means 'Painted Wolf' and refers to their unique spotted coat. These rare large predators are critically endangered and are nowadays mostly found in large wildlife reserves. Adult African Wild Dogs reach a shoulder height of 60 to 70 centimeters and weigh between 15 to 30 kilograms. They live in packs and hunt together for survival.
