Description: African Elephants (Loxodonta africana) are fascinating and majestic creatures, known as the largest land mammals on Earth. In the vast bushlands of Africa, the two subspecies of African Elephants - the Savanna Elephant (Loxodonta africana africana) and the Forest Elephant (Loxodonta africana cyclotis) roam. The Savanna Elephant, standing at an impressive shoulder height of nearly three meters and weighing up to 7.5 tons, inhabits the dry forests and savannas of the continent. Despite the international ban on ivory trade since 1989, habitat loss due to the expansion of agricultural areas has become a significant threat to the African Elephant population.
