Description: The African elephant, scientifically known as Loxodonta africana, is the largest land animal on Earth. This impressive portrait showcases the beauty and power of this majestic creature. African elephants are divided into two subspecies: the savanna elephant and the forest elephant. The savanna elephant, Loxodonta africana africana, inhabits dry forests and savannas in Africa, reaching a shoulder height of almost three meters and a weight of up to 7.5 tons. Despite the international ban on ivory trade in 1989, African elephants are still threatened by habitat loss and poaching.
