Description: The young Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is swimming off the coast of South Africa near Dyer Island. Its large gill slits and long pectoral fin are prominent features. Great White Sharks are fully developed and independent from birth. They feed on smaller fish and squids. Young sharks are cautious and flee when faced with an adult shark. Only a few make it to adulthood.
