Baby Great White Shark

Description: A baby Great White Shark, scientifically known as Carcharodon carcharias, cautiously swims near the fish bait. This few days old pup was spotted just six sea miles off the coast of Gansbaai, close to Dyer Island and Gyser Rock. Great White Sharks are born fully developed, measuring between 1.10 and 1.60 meters in length. They are independent predators, feeding on small fish and squids. Young pups are very wary and quickly flee at the sight of an adult shark. Only a few survive to adulthood.
