Description: The Great White Shark, also known as Carcharodon carcharias, is one of the most fascinating creatures of the ocean. This image depicts a young Great White Shark, roaming six sea miles off the coast of Gansbaai, near Dyer Island and Gyser Rock. Great White Sharks are born fully developed and must fend for themselves from the start. Their main diet consists of smaller fish and squids. Young pups are cautious and flee when adult sharks appear. Only a few manage to reach adulthood, but those that do become the top predators of the sea.
