Sad Barbary Lion Resting Under a Tree

Description: The Barbary Lion (Panthera leo leo) with its sad facial expression rests motionless under a shady tree. This majestic animal was once native to North Africa but became extinct in the wild by 1910. However, a few specimens still exist in captivity, such as in zoos and with private individuals. The breeding efforts to revive the Barbary Lion have been successful, although the remaining lions are no longer purebred.
