Description: The Barbary lion (Panthera leo leo) was known for its impressive mane and once inhabited the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. This fascinating format-filling portrait depicts a Barbary lion in captivity, as these majestic animals have been extinct in the wild since 1910. However, there are still a few specimens of Barbary lions in zoos and private collections. These animals are the result of successful breeding programs, although they are no longer purebred.
