Impressive portrait of a Barbary Lion: Majestic big cat in focus (00011793)
Description: The Barbary Lion (Panthera leo leo) is an impressive big cat that was native to North Africa. This fascinating animal with a magnificent mane once roamed the Atlas Mountains and became extinct in the wild in 1910. However, there are still a few individuals alive today, albeit not in their natural habitat but in zoos and private ownership. Successful breeding programs have allowed these majestic Barbary Lions to be seen in a few places such as zoos and breeding centers, even though they are no longer purebred.
