Impressive Barbary Lion with Magnificent Mane in Captivity (00011808)
Description: The Barbary Lion, scientifically known as Panthera leo leo, was an impressive subspecies of lion that once roamed North Africa. This particular specimen with a magnificent mane lived in the Atlas Mountains and has been extinct in the wild since 1910. However, a few Berber lions survived in captivity, whether in zoos or with private individuals. This fascinating big cat is a symbol of strength and beauty. Today, the remaining Barbary lions, found in zoos and breeding centers, are no longer purebred individuals, but still an important part of the legacy of these majestic creatures.
