Golden Cape Cobra on its way to a rock crevice in the Gansbaai Mountains

Description: The Golden Cape Cobra, scientifically known as Naja nivea, is a captivating and beautiful venomous snake that we encountered in the hard-to-reach Gansbaai Mountains. Amidst the vast Overberg Fynbos area, a colorful group of rocks emerges, basking in the sunlight. Within the rock crevices, various sub-species hide, including the Yellow and Speckled Cape Cobras. Only the Golden Cape Cobra, also referred to as the Yellow variety, emerged from its hiding spot. This snake, with a seamless transition from head to body, can reach lengths of up to 1.60 meters and has strikingly large eyes with round pupils.
