Stormy Atlantic and treacherous waters around Cape Agulhas (00011281)

Stormy Atlantic at the Southern Tip of Africa

Description: The southern tip of Africa, also known as the 'Cape of Needles', is infamous for sudden storms in hurricane force with high waves. Throughout numerous visits, I have experienced storms with impressive wave heights of up to eight meters. Sometimes, it was necessary to wait for up to ten days until the stormy conditions subsided and a trip was feasible. The waters around Cape Agulhas are extremely abundant in fish, yet pose shipping risks due to the dangerous coastline with many reefs. Since the 17th century, around 140 sunken ships are rumored to rest alone in the 'Graveyard of Ships'.
