Description: The cheetah, scientifically known as Acinonyx jubatus, is an impressive predator that is nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its long legs, it is the fastest land mammal. This photo captures a young cheetah in captivity at the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve. Here, not only bred cheetahs are cared for, but also animals brought in by farmers and later reintroduced into the wild.
