Fascinating portrait of a young cheetah in captivity (00011980)
Description: The cheetah, also known as Acinonyx jubatus, is a fascinating predator that is nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its long legs, it is the fastest land mammal in the world. This portrait captures a young cheetah in captivity at the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve. The facility not only cares for bred cheetahs, but also for animals brought in by farmers, which are later rehabilitated and released back into the wild.
