Description: The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) looks surprised as it gazes into the camera. This majestic predator is nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its long legs, the cheetah is the fastest land mammal on Earth. This image was captured at the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve, where bred and rescued cheetahs are nurtured and reintroduced into the wild.
