Description: The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a fascinating predator that is nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its long legs, it is the fastest land animal in the world. This image captures a surprised cheetah in captivity. The Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve houses not only bred cheetahs but also injured animals rescued from farmers, cared for, and eventually reintroduced into the wild.
