Portrait of a young cheetah

Description: The cheetah, also known as Acinonyx jubatus, is a fascinating predator that is nearly extinct in Asia and highly endangered in Africa. With its distinctive long legs, it is the fastest land mammal on Earth. This portrait captures a young cheetah in captivity. At the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve, both bred cheetahs and animals rescued by farmers are nurtured and prepared for release back into the wild.
