Description: The cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) is a fascinating predator, nearly extinct in Asia and facing severe threats in Africa. Known for its long legs, it is the fastest land animal on Earth. This portrait captures a young cheetah in captivity. At the Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in the Kapama Private Game Reserve, not only bred cheetahs are cared for, but also animals rescued by farmers, preparing them for release back into the wild.
