Fascinating African Wild Dogs in the Savanna of South Africa

Description: The African Wild Dogs, also known as Lycaon pictus, are majestic predators that inhabit the bush and tree-filled savannas of Africa south of the Sahara. Their scientific name 'Lycaon pictus' means 'Painted Wolf' and refers to their unique spotted coat. The puppies of these fascinating animals are born with black fur and irregular white spots, later developing yellow-brown hues. Adult African Wild Dogs reach a shoulder height of 60 to 70 centimeters and weigh between 15 and 30 kilograms. Living in packs, these wild dogs are highly endangered, nowadays mainly found in large wildlife reserves.
