African Wild Dogs - Fascinating Predators of the Savannah

Description: The African Wild Dog (Lycaon pictus) is one of the most captivating predators of the African savannah. Their scientific name translates to 'Painted Wolf', referring to their unique coat pattern. Puppies are born black with irregular white spots before developing yellow-brown hues. Adults stand at 60 to 70 centimeters shoulder height and weigh between 15 to 30 kilograms. Living in packs, African Wild Dogs inhabit the savannahs south of the Sahara. Due to poaching and habitat loss, they are critically endangered and primarily found in large wildlife reserves.
