Description: African Wild Dogs, also known as Lycaon pictus, are fascinating animals that inhabit the bush and tree-lined savannas of Africa south of the Sahara. Their scientific name 'Lycaon pictus' means 'Painted Wolf' due to their unique spotted coat. These rare large carnivores are critically endangered and are found almost exclusively in large wildlife reserves. Adult African Wild Dogs reach a shoulder height of 60 to 70 centimeters and weigh between 15 to 30 kilograms. Living in packs, they hunt cooperatively and are a fascinating example of social behavior in the animal kingdom.
