Description: The African Elephant, scientifically known as Loxodonta africana, is the largest land animal on earth. This impressive photo captures a majestic African Elephant head-on in Addo Elephant National Park located in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. African Elephants are divided into two subspecies: the Savannah Elephant (Loxodonta africana africana) and the Forest Elephant (Loxodonta africana cyclotis). The Savannah Elephant, inhabiting the dry woodlands and savannahs of Africa, can reach a shoulder height of nearly three meters and weigh up to 7.5 tons.
