Majestic African Elephant at a picturesque waterhole

Description: The African Elephant (Loxodonta africana) is the largest land mammal on Earth. This fascinating animal, native to Africa, is often spotted at watering holes, quenching its thirst and cooling off. African elephants are divided into two subspecies: the Savanna elephant (Loxodonta africana africana) and the Forest elephant (Loxodonta africana cyclotis). The Savanna elephant inhabits the dry forests and savannas of Africa, reaching a shoulder height of nearly three meters and a weight of up to 7.5 tons. Despite the international ban on ivory trade in 1989, African Elephant populations remain threatened by habitat loss and poaching.
