Baby Great White Shark searching for prey

Description: The Great White Shark, also known as Carcharodon carcharias, is one of the most fascinating creatures of the sea. This image showcases a baby specimen, only a few days old, already on the hunt for prey. Captured off the coast of Gansbaai in South Africa, near Dyer Island and Gyser Rock, we observe the young shark cautiously approaching the water surface. Great White Sharks are impressive predators even from birth, primarily feeding on small fish and squids. Pups like this one are naturally wary and prefer to swim away at the first sign of danger. Only a few of these pups survive to adulthood, as the marine world is full of challenges and perils.

Location: Western Cape, Gansbaai/Dyer Island, South Africa

Date of Capture: 12.07.2002
