Baby Great White Shark near Gansbaai in South Africa (00010475)

Description: The Baby Great White Shark (Carcharodon carcharias) is swimming in the sunlit waters off the coast of Gansbaai. This image captures a Great White Shark only a few days old, moving close to the water surface. Great White Sharks are fully developed and independent from birth. Measuring 1.10 to 1.60 meters in length, they feed on small fish and squids. Pups like this one are extremely cautious and quickly retreat at the sight of an adult shark. Only a few manage to reach adulthood.
