Description: The Barbary lion (Panthera leo leo) is an impressive big cat that was native to North Africa. This majestic animal with its magnificent mane once roamed the Atlas Mountains before becoming extinct in the wild. Today, only a few specimens can be found in zoos and breeding centers. Despite successful breeding efforts, the Barbary lions seen today are no longer purebred.
