Fascinating Barbary Lion resting at Hoedspruit Research & Breeding Centre in South Africa (00011830)
Description: The Barbary Lion (Panthera leo leo) is seen here resting peacefully. This majestic animal once roamed the Atlas Mountains of North Africa and went extinct in the wild in 1910. However, a few individuals can still be found in zoos and private collections. Today, efforts have been made to reintroduce them, but the current population of Barbary Lions is not purebred.
