Description: The Barbary Lion (Panthera leo leo) was a majestic animal with a magnificent, dense mane. This specimen is in captivity. The Barbary Lion, once native to North Africa, has been considered extinct in the wild since 1910. However, a few individuals can still be found in zoos and private facilities. These impressive animals have been preserved through selective breeding efforts, even though they are no longer purebred.
