Young Great White Shark off the coast of Gansbaai, South Africa

Description: A baby Great White Shark, scientifically known as Carcharodon carcharias, is swimming six nautical miles off the coast of Gansbaai, South Africa. This few days old juvenile is cruising close to the water surface near Dyer Island and Gyser Rock. White sharks are born at about 1.30 to 1.50 meters in length and are fully developed from the start. They are independent predators feeding mainly on small fish and squids. Juveniles are very cautious and flee immediately when an adult shark appears.
